As our missionary appointment gets closer and is more affirmed, we keep getting the strangest question: What are you going to do with Waverly? or some variation (Is Waverly going, too? Are you all taking Waverly?). I mean, what else would we do with her? She's our daughter. Do you think, for a second, that I would just leave her 7,000 miles behind? Nope.
I guess people are just appalled that we would raise our child in a third-world country. Or that we would take her away from her grandparents and aunts and uncles. Is it more important that she be with her extended family than her own parents? People can be so silly.
This week, however, my in-laws, Chandler, and I decided what we would do with her if we were to leave her behind: Uptown Hounds Luxury Resorts. It's "an all-inclusive, high-energy environment where pets play, primp, train, and stay." We figure Fenway could watch out for her and she'd have a great time until we decide what we want to do with her, ultimately.
We proposed all of this to Waverly and her eyes got big and she made her surprise face. Then Caroline told her that she could drink out of a water bowl shaped like a toilet because seriously, what kid wouldn't think that is cool? Mine. Her face quickly changed from surprise to disgust and she exclaimed, "That's nasty!"
I guess she's right. A dog kennel, even a resort, is no place for a child. Seems we'll have to take her to Africa with us.
